Orthoses provide conservative, non invasive and cost effective assistance in the management of many rehabilitation and disability conditions.  Their purpose may be to immobilise, support, prevent/correct abnormality, or to assist/restore function.  Examples are: supports, corsets, braces, calipers, cervical collars and slings.

Other examples include surgical footwear, and footwear items such as insoles, arch supports, shoe raises and heel cups.  Orthoses can also be very effective in the prevention of sports related injuries.
